The Sumerians, Egyptians and Hebrews held the stone as a symbol of happiness and everlasting youth. Beads of Aquamarines have been found in ancient Egyptian mummy pits. It is held in quite high regard in the East as the Stone of the Seer and Mystic, a gemstone that imparts purity to the wearer, as well as encouraging the gentle nature and personality in the wearer. The Romans also heralded the use of Aquamarine as a storehouse of young love. “When blessed and worn, it joins in love, and does great things.” It was the traditional gift between bride and groom after the consummation of their marriage, because it was said to absorb that passion. So it is a life-long lovers stone. This might be why, in Medieval times, the stone was used to reawaken the love of married couples.
 
Aquamarine was also used for protection. It was said to bring victory in battle or in legal pursuits. In the Middle Ages, it was said to be an antidote for poison, unlike other stones, you did not need an elixer, it simply needed to be worn.
 
As a communication stone, Aquamarine also had a strong mystical history. It was often used for scrying, or divining, either as a crystal ball you would gaze into, or as a pendulum or pointer on a string. Just holding or wearing the stone would help in a search for lost or hidden things. One way to use Aquamarine for scrying was to cast this ancient water stone into a bowl of pure water and then look for messages on the surface.
